Solo Female Travel

Travelling alone as a woman can be an incredibly rewarding experience, and every year thousands of solo female travellers choose Marrakech as their destination. Like any busy city, it requires common sense, but most visitors enjoy a safe and memorable stay.

The Medina is lively from early morning until late evening, with cafés, shops, local families and visitors filling the narrow streets. You may occasionally experience persistent sales offers or friendly attempts to start a conversation, but these are usually more annoying than threatening. A polite but confident “No, thank you” is normally enough.

As with any destination, it is wise to:

Dress respectfully, especially in the Medina.
Avoid displaying expensive jewellery or large amounts of cash.
Use official taxis or arrange an airport transfer.
Walk confidently and trust your instincts.
Avoid quiet alleys late at night.
Many women travelling alone tell us that they feel surprisingly comfortable after the first day, once they become familiar with the rhythm of the Medina.

Some women may experience unwanted attention or catcalling, particularly in busy tourist areas, but this is generally verbal rather than physical. Dressing respectfully, walking confidently, and politely declining unwanted attention usually helps avoid uncomfortable situations.

Morocco has a dedicated Tourist Police in popular visitor areas such as the Medina. They are there to help visitors and contribute to a safe environment for both tourists and locals.
