Is Morocco Safe?

Like any major tourist destination, Marrakech is not crime-free. However, visitors are far more likely to encounter petty crime or tourist scams than violent crime.

What are the most common problems?

Violent crime is uncommon

Morocco also has a dedicated Tourist Police, particularly visible in major tourist areas such as Marrakech’s Medina. Officers are there to assist visitors, provide directions and respond if help is needed. Most travellers never need their assistance, but it is reassuring to know they are present.

Like many countries, Morocco maintains a level of vigilance against terrorism. The authorities invest heavily in security, and major tourist areas, airports and public spaces have a visible security presence. Most Western governments continue to regard Morocco as a suitable destination for tourism while advising travellers to exercise normal common-sense precautions.
